Common Core Tests Start Today For Ny Kids In 3rd Through 8th Grade

Hundreds of thousands of kids across New York State take their Common Core tests this week; a test that schools have spent months preparing for. The tests, given this week and next, cover English and Math for students in third through eighth grades-- but teachers say the exams are tougher then before, and they predict scores will be dropping 20 to 30 percent when the scores are released in July. Students will have to back up an essay with facts from the text; they will have to explain which tools they need to use in math when solving problems-- like protractors or rulers.

New York is the second state in the nation to incorporate the tests; and many districts are frustrated because they still haven't been sent materials to prepare kids for it.
