New York Education Commissioner John King said the Common Core learning standards are here to stay during a forum in Binghamton last night. The education chief defended the controversial curriculum during a tour of the Parlor City while acknowledging some difficulty in rolling out the standards.  Common Core is a set of national, standards that change the content and manner of instruction for students in kindergarten to 12th grade. The standards are designed to ensure students are on track for college or a career when they graduate high school. King met with administrators in the Binghamton, Maine-Endwell and Windsor school districts before last night’s forum.
