Church Pipe Organ From 9 11 To Be Played Again

05.31.11 | Sarah Harnisch

A church pipe organ silenced by the terror attacks of 9/11 will raise its voice once again. Dust from the collapsing buildings ruined the massive organ at the Trinity Wall Street Church in New York, and it was dismantled not long after. But now, 10 years after, the huge instrument has a new lease on life. It's being cleaned at a workshop in Massachusetts and will be donated to the John's Creek United Methodist Church outside Atlanta. It will be about a year before the organ is in place and able to be played again. John's Creek is spending 2-point-5 million dollars to have it cleaned, and to build a new sanctuary to house it.
