"Love Won Out" is on the way out for Focus on the Family. Since 1998, the Colorado Springs-based ministry has conducted the program in 50 cities, touting it would transform homosexuals into heterosexuals. Now, a six-million-dollar shortfall has forced the ministry to hand over the program to Orlando-based Exodus International. Focus on the Family will hold its last program on November 7th in Birmingham, Alabama. The deficit prompted Focus President Jim Daly to plead for donations by sending out 800-thousand fundraising letters. Gay rights groups have called "Love Won Out" harmful psychologically. Last week, the American Psychological Association released a report discrediting the effectiveness of programs and therapies that claim to alter a person's sexual orientation. In a released statement, a Focus on the Family spokesperson said the organization would still provide speakers and market support for the program.
