A Christian attorney who spent his time fighting for conservative rights in Pennsylvania has died in a freak accident. 45-year-old Scott Shields was an attorney for the Alliance Defense Fund. He lost his life Friday in a skydiving accident in New Jersey. ADF issued this statement: "Shields served with distinction as one of nearly 1,900 attorneys in the ADF alliance, and we would like to express our deep gratitude for his great legal work on important religious liberty cases in his home state of Pennsylvania." Besides operating his own legal practice, Shields was mayor of Rutledge, Pa.-- that's near Philadelphia. He was strong in voicing his defense of religious liberty, life, and family issues. But most importantly, he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and father to 3 girls. His memorial service is Friday at 11 a.m. in Middletown, Pennsylvania.
