11.23.10 | Sarah Harnisch

The stage has been set in a Canadian court for a landmark debate over whether or not polygamy is a religious practice. About a dozen different groups and 30 witnesses have been granted permission to make submissions in the case. There will be supporters speaking--  like the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints-- and those opposed speaking as well, like the group Stop Polygamy in Canada. This issue has been bubbling for decades and there have been two major cases in lower courts in the past 18 months. The difference this time is that it's hit Canada's Supreme Court will hear it. Opening statements were Monday.
