Budget Deficit Could Plague Rendell

The melting economy may be a major problem for Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell during his last two years in office. The talk in Harrisburg these days is how to close a growing deficit.

Despite falling revenues, Rendell says he still wants to pour money into public schools, expand the state's health insurance program for low-income adults and fix the state's highways and bridges.

The governor's press secretary says key decisions are being made right now before Rendell hands in next year's budget proposal on February 3rd.
