Broome County Considers Axing Prayers Before Meetings

Broome County lawmakers are trying to decide how to open their meetings with or without prayer. It may mean praying to Jesus Christ gets tossed in favor of a moment of silence. Numerous Broome County legislators attended a special meeting Thursday to discuss what to do. Some said religion should be kept out of politics. Others argued the prayer was too "Christian". And a third party of lawmakers said it was a "cop out"-- to exchange the prayer for a moment of silence. Legislator Michael Schafer said quote "I would like to recognize that we have a God, and i feel very strongly that we should have prayer. A silent prayer does absolutely nothing for me." Any change in how they open the meetings will have to be approved by the full legislature.
