Branch Of Presbyterian Church Says Its Ok To Ordain Gay Pastors

After 33 years of debate, the Presbyterian church has approved the ordination of gays. The outcome is a reversal from only 2 years ago, when a majority of the church's regions voted against ordaining openly gay candidates. This time, 19 of the church's 173 regions switched their votes from no to yes. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has about 2 million members. The change, approved Tuesday, does not mean each church must ordain gay candidates-- it only means they may. The new policy takes effect in July.
