Boy Scouts To Take Historic Vote Tomorrow

05.22.13 |

Boy Scout leaders around the country are weighing a big decision. They will vote Thursday on whether to end a ban on gay scouts. The Supreme Court ruled 13 years ago that, as a private organization, the scouts have the right to exclude gay members. But a recent survey of scouts, parents, leaders and the general public have prompted a re-assessment. A vote to end or continue the ban on gay scouts will not affect the ban on gay scout leaders - which will remain. With traditional support from Evangelical Christians - many fear lifting the ban on gay scouts would see enrollment decline drastically.
