There is now a plan in place to legally defend the Defense of Marriage Act. The Speaker of the House, John Boehner confirmed the plan to legally defend D.O.M.A. on Wednesday.  According to Citizenlink, the speaker released a statement saying the bipartisan leadership advisory group and the House general counsel has been directed to "initiate a legal defense".  Boehner says the action by the House will ensure that the law's constitutionality is decided by the courts, "rather than by the president unilaterally."  The 1996 law bans federal recognition of same-sex marriage.
