Binghamton Files Legal Paperwork Over Gas Drilling Rights

Should towns be able to ban high volume hydrofracking in New York? In a move with statewide implications, the city of Binghamton is mounting an appeal of the landmark decision that struck down its moratorium on oil and gas drilling. Attorneys for the city last month filed documents arguing a State Supreme Court ruling was inapplicable and show be reversed. The appeal will move to the state appellate division, a mid-level appeals court, alongside two other key legal cases for drilling bans in the towns of Dryden and Middlefield. The case will likely be heard early next year, with a ruling in the spring.
