Lance Armstrong, the seven-time winner of the Tour de France, says this will be the last year he races in the event. He made the announcement on Twitter. Armstrong is the only man in history to win the Tour seven times, with all those victories coming consecutively. Armstrong is also the first American to win the La Fleche Wallonne and is a two-time winner of the Tour duPont. In 1996, Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which eventually spread to his lungs, abdomen and brain. He had surgery to remove the diseased testicle, and by January 1998, he had already engaged in serious training for a comeback. There have been several allegations over the years that Armstrong has used performance-enhancing drugs or doped his blood to mask any foreign substances. In 24 tests, Armstrong has never come up positive.
