Authorities say the man led them on a chase through two central New York counties first. The Madison County Sheriff's Office says 26-year-old Derik Churchill of Oneida was taken into custody around 1:30 a.m. Friday at Cazenovia College.

Officials say deputies began pursuing Churchill around 10 p.m. Thursday when he violated an order of protection issued an hour earlier. He led police on a chase into neighboring Onondaga County before driving back into Madison County. Deputies say he rammed a patrol car before spike strips in Cazenovia disabled his vehicle.

Morrisville State College and Cazenovia College were locked down for several hours during the pursuit, and the college website warned that he was "heavily armed".

Churchill is jailed on $1,000 bail.
