Alabama Sues Companies For Gulf Of Mexico Oil Leak

(Birmingham, AL)  --  Companies associated with the disastrous oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico are now facing a lawsuit from the state of Alabama.  BP, Transocean, Anadarko Petroleum and Halliburton are among the defendants in a case that claims the spewing oil was caused by "a blowout relating to the cementing work."  Alabama Attorney General Troy King says the state is suing for the amount it will take "to make Alabama whole," without specifying a dollar amount for damages.

King brought the suit even though the state's governor, Bob Riley, opposed going after BP in court.  King says the lawsuit is designed to put his state in the strongest possible position after BP inflicted catastrophic harm.
