(Kabul)  --  There's word today from the office of Afghan President Hamid Karzai that Pakistan will hand over the number two man in the Afghan Taliban.  Pakistan had no immediate comment on the Afghan statement about Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.  However, late yesterday Islamabad noted that Mullah Baradar was being investigated for crimes in Pakistan and would first face trial in that country.

The statement from Karzai's office also said other militants are included in the agreement.  Karzai's office says the prisoners are accused of criminal acts.  The Afghan announcement comes as Karzai is offering Taliban soldiers jobs, money and land in exchange for laying down their weapons and accepting his government's authority.
