Abstinence Only Education Suffering In America

There is good news and bad news on the fight to have American teenagers focused on abstinence. The good news is that more teens are choosing to wait to sleep around; 1 in 3 say they are waiting, and those numbers are up 10 percent from 2002. The bad news is that funding for abstinence-only education in our public schools is down. Valerie Huber, Executive Director of the National Abstinence Education Association, says "with Congress zeroing out all funds for community-based abstinence education programs, per the president's request, I think we have to ask the question: who is supporting young people and these good decisions?" 170 abstinence-only education programs across the country have lost their funding since President Obama took office.
