(Detroit, MI)  --  A plea of not guilty has been entered for a man accused of attempting to blow up a jet bound for Detroit.  Accused bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was mostly silent during his appearance in federal court in Detroit this afternoon.  The 23-year-old appeared before a U.S. Magistrate wearing a white T-shirt with beige pants, with his head shaven.

Witnesses described him as polite and quiet, saying only, "yes sir" and "I do" in response to the judge's questions.  He faces six felony charges that could send him to prison for life.  After the hearing, he was reportedly taken back to a federal prison in Milan, Michigan, where he is being held.

Abdulmutallab is accused of attempting to blow up an airliner bound from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day with a bomb that was sewn into his underwear.
