A No Go On Gay Marriage

New York senate majority leader Malcolm Smith says there are not enough votes to legalize gay marriage in the empire state this year, but that's not going to stop him from trying.  Smith told a homosexual rights group in Manhattan that he is committed to equal marriage rights for homosexual couples.
          There are two downstate democrats: Ruben Diaz, a Bronx minister and Carl Kruger, a conservative from Brooklyn, who oppose homosexual marriage.  So long as Republicans remain against it, Democrats lack the votes to pass a gay marriage law.
