340 Year Old Bible Found In Wisconsin Church

01.18.11 | Sarah Harnisch

A 340-year-old Bible has been found in Wisconsin. The Bible, copied by hand from a translation by Martin Luther in 1670, was found in a Wisconsin Lutheran church by a 6th grade teacher. She discovered it sitting on a top shelf in a safe while trying to hunt down baptismal records. There are only 40 known copies of this book in the world, and the church has no idea how it got there --100 years before America even became a nation. The pastor of the church says the message inside it has made his faith more real. He also says, "To hold something that tells us, in 1670, the same message of God's grace in Christ that we tell one another today -- that helps me to be even more thankful."
