30 Pa Pastors To To Marry Gay Couples In Defiance Of Biblical Marriage

10.21.13 | Sarah Harnisch

There is a movement across the state of Pennsylvania to get same sex marriage legalized. But it's not coming from gay rights groups-- it's coming from pastors. More then 30 Methodist pastors from Reading to Philadelphia are vowing to officiate same sex marriages next month. The group is acting to support Reverend Frank Schaefer, who faces a November 18th church trial after officiating his gay son's wedding in 2007 in Massachusetts, where it was legal. The Methodist church openly accepts gay members, but bars openly gay pastors and any pastor from officiating gay weddings. Gay marriage is illegal in Pennsylvania, so the pastors may face state charges as well. Pastors from other denominations in Pennsylvania say they support the Methodist rule to include gays in the church, but they believe it's sinful to facilitate the sin by presiding over homosexual ceremonies.
