1 Dead 30 Injured In Waterloo Tour Bus Crash

A tractor trailer crashed into a tour bus around 1 A.M. Friday morning on the NYS Thruway between exits 41 and 42 near Waterloo. Both vehicles burst into flames. The bus was heading from Ontairo, Canada to New York City and was carrying 52 passengers. 30 were injured and the driver of the tractor trailer, 59 year old Timothy Hume, is dead.

Witnesses say the bus had pulled off the Thruway for about half an hour to deal with what was probably a mechanical problem. Then, as it pulled back onto the road, it was hit by the tractor trailer. Investigators are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Of 30 people injured:
- 2 in critical condition
- 13 suffered moderate injuries
- 15 had "very minor" injuries
- 1 dead: driver of tractor trailer, Timothy Hume, 59, from Dryden, Michigan

6 Patients at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester:
- 1 is satisfactory
- 5 are being evaluated
- 1 patient will be transferred into Strong from Newark Hospital Friday morning.

5 Patients at Syracuse's University Hospital:
- All had some type of head lacerations, bumps or bruises
- 1 has been treated and released
- 3 are being treated and expected to be released
- 1 will be admitted.
