This Monday is Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer. By next week all public school children in the Empire and Keystone States will be back to school. I have five tips for youngsters on how to succeed in school:

  1. Respect and obey your teachers. Recognize their authority and appreciate the fact that they have dedicated their lives so that young people will succeed and lead productive lives.
  2. It is important to work hard in school and learn as much as you can. Dedicate yourself to self-improvement and being the best that you can be. I like the saying that success is 90 percent perspiration and 10 percent inspiration. Remember to do your homework!
  3. Pay attention to what your teachers are saying. That means listening very carefully and working hard to develop your listening skills. Public speaking is important…but so is public listening.
  4. Appreciate and value your education. Have a positive attitude every day in school and treat your classmates with dignity and respect. That means no bullying.
  5. At the beginning of every school day self-reflect and thank God and the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all your blessings and the opportunity you have each and every day to learn and to prepare for the future.

So to the youngsters of New York and Pennsylvania…God Bless you all and have a productive school year.
