Tattoo Parlor In Church

01.10.12 | Bob Price | Comments[22]

A Michigan Pastor has opened a tattoo parlor inside his church.  The Reverand Steve Bentley says he's doing everything he can to reach out to people who've never felt comfortable at a traditional house of worship.

Bentley's church is called The Bridge. It occupies 3,000 square feet inside a Flint township shopping center.  The name of the tattoo shop is called Serenity Tattoo and it features two tattoo artists who work at the county-licensed facilty every day except Sunday.

Bentley rejects criticism that a church is the wrong place for a tattoo parlor, calling it a "morally neutral" practice akin to having your ears pierced.  For the record, he has two tattoos.  What do you think, is this an appropriate form of evangelism for the church to be involved in?

I think anything that can bring one to God is a good thing!

Graven Image? The Word speaks about it.

What about a bar serving alcohol? That would also help to bring in the nontraditional church goer. - Right? The Bible speaks against drunkenness not having a drink. Right? LOL

I think its an awesome idea! So many people in our society may feel judged by coming into a church with piercings and/or tattoos. We should be doing whatever we can to win souls for Christ. Even if it mean adding a tattoo parlor in your church.

In my experience people get tattoo's to draw attention to theirselves. Christian's should rather be drawing people to Christ.

Apparently the Word-based Gospel isn't good enough. All these innovations just testify to the modern watered down gospel.

Poor Paul if only he'd had some of our modern gimmicks he could have reached so many more for Christ.

We are warned to 'be in the world, but not of it'.
There are many, many other ways of reaching the lost.

Ken Davis had it right in a recent episode i heard where he said we (the church) keeps lowering the bar, When in fact we ( the church) are suppose to raise the bar as we see his soon coming approaching. The happiest christians i have ever known have testified of how God brought them out from their worldly ways. Maybe thats why we have so much depression in the CHURCH.

Matthew 15 tells us that we defile our body by what we say, not what we put in it. Do we not live by the New Covenant and not the old. There are alot of "things" in the old testiment that Jesus covered with His Blood!! A tatoo does less damage than someone who is judging and saying a negative comments. My bible also state that blessings and cursing should not come from the same mouth and that Jesus is the Judge. God loves us all-yet while we were sinners Jesus died for us.

God is not in a box! People are getting new ideas of ways to reach the lost. As long as the gospel is being preached while they are there, it should should work. If Gods word is true then his word say's it won't return void!!!
Best wishes to the pastor of this new idea and pray it will flourish for the glory of the Lord!
People will still get tatoos, why not ones of the cross or a dove? Each one must answer for themselves. We are not under old testament law. Just my opinion. His command was to reach the lost, it's not being watered down if he is in it!

Althugh this pastor has 2 tatoos, I for a fact have seen what goes on in tatoo parlors. One of my dearest friends has many tats. It is also well televized on TV with programs as such. Does believers in the Lord Jesus Christ think that God would at all be pleased with such things going on within a place of worship. I know church is just a building and God's people make up the church, but really, what devasting avenues God's people and churches are taking when we conform to things that conform to the darkness of this world and not the light of Jesus.

I much more question what goes on inside out stain glass edifices that have taken the place of the TRUE CHURCH than what happens in tattoo parlors. Thing is, in most of our churches in America if Jesus walked in with His long hair, beard, and sandals he would be escorted out by the ushers. Most people commenting negatively on this post wouldn't be able to handle His radical form of relationship based Christianity because you're too busy arguing whether tattoos are Biblical or not. They were having the same arguments about Jesus' methods of evangelism 2000 years ago and He called them a brood of vipers.

Why do we question the method over the message? Jesus told us to spead the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel. Problem is, what many of us are preaching isn't good news at all. It's judgement manipulation and fear!

the Word is enough .

If we do what the world does "to win others to Christ" then we aren't any different then the world!" Preaching the Word of God ,under the annointing of the Holy Spirit is what changes people, not conforming to their way of living! That's why we question the method of conforming to worldly ways to preach the pure Word of God. Like the writer above (john) said "the Word is enough".

I just had this discussion with my parents aboutgetting tattoos.THe topic wa brought up bc i had just gotten another ear piercing. We looked it up and the bible says IT IS NOT OKAY to tattoo your body. Evry body is right if they said the word is enough. A church reaching out does not need to try getting people by giving them tattoos. At our church we have VBS, Youth Group, wensday night bible studies and people just going out and witnessing. The people of the world don't need much to be drawn in. THey are all hurting and looking for relief

Would you think that it would be ok if the church started growing and selling marijuana to bring people in? It is the same concept as trying to bring them in using tattoos.

Did Jesus have tatoos? I think not, so be Christ like should include no tatoos.

I am troubled by this in the same way I was when I saw Stryper performing in a bar before they hit it big. They were in full heavy metal gear, which is somehow do not associate with proper worship of God. At the end of the concert, girls were throwing their underclothes on the stage. They, Stryper, were throwing back Bibles. Some folks may call this exchanging pearls for swine, which in and of itself is odious. I call it stretching things a bit too far.

Come out and be a separate people,To many preachers want numbers, people feel a spirit but its the wrong one.No one can be saved unless the spirit draw them, its either good or bad no middle of the road, too many churches are worse then people not going to church.

we are commanded to be in the world but not of it.CHRIST through out the money changers that were in the church in HIS time. We as true believers in CHRIST have HIS spirit. This being said we must love the world, but be ready to take a stand when HIS commands are under attack.
