The apostle Paul writes of the Holy Spirit's role in helping us pray effectively.

Romans 8:26  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  (NIV)

Feeling a little inadequate in your prayer-life?  You are not alone!  Many Christ-followers feel this way.  Nothing to be ashamed or worry about.  Isn't it great to read that God's Holy Spirit is in your life, in part, to help you pray??  (Note:  the Holy Spirit's help does not take the place of prayer -- it helps our weakness when we pray!)

The specific word for "help" here is used only one other time in the New Testament -- in the story of two of Jesus' friends:  Mary and Martha.  Mary wanted to sit at Jesus' feet and be taught; Martha was busy preparing food and being a hostess.  Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to come and "help" her.  Obviously, this kind of "help" is very practical.  In whatever struggles you face  -- God's Spirit can help you when you pray.
