The apostle Paul wrote that a Christ-follower's actions and thinking must be different.

Romans 12:2  Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  (NLT)

When a Christ-follower presents their body to the Lord it's like saying, "My physical body is the way I live and interact with the world and others -- so I give that body to You for whatever You want, for however long, . . . no matter what!"  When you give yourself to God this way, He accepts you . . . it's done . . . it's a one-time thing.  But the next steps are something that have to be practiced daily!

First, don't live the way the rest of the world lives.  Today, the world is concerned with what's best for "me and my happiness"; the rest of the world goes along with the prevailing attitudes of our culture regardless of whether they violate Scripture.  But life is not all about you . . . life is all about obeying God and what He wants you to be.  Secondly, we need to change the way we think.  If you think the way the world thinks you will do what the world does.  Thinking like Christ thinks requires reading and obeying the Bible, then you begin developing discernment to know what He wants you to do versus what the world wants you to do.
