The Psalmist writes that our God is a personal God who knows our needs and answers when we call.

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  (NASB)

A Bible teacher of a past generation, A.W. Tozer, once said “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” If you imagine God as aloof and preoccupied with running the universe -- that is not much comfort in the storms of life. What do you know about God?  He sees the sparrow fall; He knows the number of hairs on your head.  God is as near as your next cry for help!

The writer of this Psalm was a flawed man. His name was King David, yet in spite of flagrant disobedience . . . David kept coming back with a broken and contrite heart. That is the person God can save!
