The Psalmist David humbly seeks God's forgiveness.

Psalm 51:1  Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love.  Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.  (NLT)

This verse was written by one of the spiritual giants of the Bible:  King David.  Unfortunately, it comes after the spiritual failure of his lifetime:  adultery with the wife of one of his best friends, and the murder of that friend.  It takes your breath away to read those words!

David stubbornly refused to confess his sin to God for a year.  When the prophet Nathan finally faced David with his sin -- that was the final straw.  David had been in inner turmoil & agony as he fought God -- and now was finally broken!

This devotional is about "love" . . . and so it is.  God loves you as He loved David, but when Satan whispers, "God could never forgive that!" .  . . that lie can wall you off from God's healing love.  It's only when you stand in the naked light of God's truth -- fully admitting your wrong, utterly broken, that He can pick you up, hold you close, and forgive your sin.
