The Psalmist David writes of the importance of the fear of the Lord in all things related to God's will.

Psalm 34:11 Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.  (NIV)

Listening is the discipline of learning.  How easy it can be to miss the fundamentals of some course of study, by being either too busy to listen or asking too many questions! Truly there are no stupid questions. but sometimes a learner doesn't know enough to ask the right questions.  It takes restraint and humility to listen and learn.

There is no life-skill more to be desired than learning the fear of the Lord.  Chip Ingram says, "The fear of the Lord is, 'I have a reverential awe for God,' and part of it is just good ol', healthy, 'I don't want to mess up and I don't want the consequences,' and part of it is a reverential awe, that, in light of who He is and what He has done for me, 'God, regardless of how I happen to feel, I want to do life Your way.  I want to obey You.'"
