The apostle Paul writes of the joy that is found in Christ.

Philippians 4:4  Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!  (NASB)

At the passing of my father, as oldest son, I felt the responsibility to take care of final details and make the experience as smooth as possible for the family.  After months of prayer and gathering such information as I could -- I honestly felt very inadequate and confessed to God, that I could not do the job . . .  that I had to do!

The day of my father's funeral found me ready, rehearsed, and resolved -- except upon awakening I found myself fearful.  Then I began my morning practice of claiming God's strength to do whatever He wanted me to do in the day ahead.  As I worshipped . . . I found my fears subsiding!  It was as though God said, "I've heard your prayers, I know your strength is insufficient:  I've got this . . . now rest in Me."  God answered in a big way . . . as the funeral proceeded in a manner above my expectations!

Durable joy -- regardless of circumstances -- comes from being "in-Christ".  As a Christ-follower you have God's Spirit living within; you are part of God's family; you have a home awaiting you in Heaven, and so much more!  As you proceed in this New Year and encounter hardship . . .  know this, the joy that Paul commands in this verse may be yours by remembering all you have "in-Christ"!
