The apostle John writes of Jesus' gift of peace as found in His Spirit.

John 14:27  [Jesus said] Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.  (NASB)

Shortly before His crucifixion, Jesus gave a legacy of peace to His disciples and all who would follow Him; it came in the form of His Spirit.  It is the same peace that carried Jesus through His beatings and death with such serenity.  Moments before giving up His Spirit. Jesus had such presence of mind to see to the care of His mother and promising the repentant thief a home in paradise!

The peace this world offers is often only distraction or a numbing of the senses.  Keith Krell writes, "Christ's peace includes the absence of distress but it also includes the presence of blessing."  Jesus' conclusion is "Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
