The apostle James writes that real faith in Christ produces an authentic lifestyle.

James 1:26  If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person's religion is worthless.  (NASB)

When the Bible says things like, "the tongue is set on fire of hell", it should give us a hint about the dangers of a loose tongue!  Sad to say, the words we speak reveal the condition of our heart.  John Piper put it this way, "whether our faith -- our religion -- is real is shown by the change it brings about in our hearts and lives."

"Be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath . . . Those words from James provides a benchmark ratio of listening -- twice as much -- as we talk!  If Christ is living in your heart, He will begin to change the way you speak and how much you speak.  Some of the wisest, godliest people I know, are people of a few words.
