The apostle Peter describes the secure inheritance awaiting the Christ-follower.

I Peter 1:4 . . . an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,” (NASB)

Christ-followers are blessed in so many ways: they experience forgiveness of sin, adoption into God’s family, and -- as a family member -- they have an inheritance. One can only imagine what a son or daughter of the King of Kings would receive! This royal legacy will never fade away or perish. On earth our belongings may be stolen or decrease in value, but a heavenly inheritance remains as glorious and eternal as heaven itself!

In addition, our inheritance is given freely by a loving Heavenly Father; it was not obtained by human manipulation, fraud or crime.  Albert Barnes wrote, “Everything will be kept in it’s original brightness and beauty. The crown of glory, though worn for millions of ages will not be dimmed; the golden streets will lose none of their luster; the flowers that bloom on the banks of the river of life will always be rich in color, and as fragrant, as when we first beheld them.”  Remember this truth as you look forward to the hope of heaven!
