The apostle John encourages Christ-followers to be patient as they anticipate God’s plan unfolding.

I John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.   (NASB)

God is preparing us for our eternal home in heaven by gradually “sanding off” the rough edges of our character and shaping us to become like Christ. God allows difficult circumstances to cause us to respond supernaturally. It’s not natural to be joyful when circumstances are against you – but it’s Christ-like and possible -- when empowered by the Holy Spirit.

My father went to be with the Lord 4 years ago and I often think of the discomfort he was in on earth, compared to the perfect heavenly body he now enjoys! The apostle John refers to this mystery . . . we don’t exactly know what we will be like in heaven. What we do know is, as Christ-followers, we are children of God right now and we have a home in heaven – that truth gives us hope.
