The writer of Hebrews explains how to live a life of impact for God.

Hebrews 12:14  Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.  (NIV))

This verse should be the profile of every Christ-follower.  Ray Stedman wrote:  "The world is not at all impressed with Christians who stop doing something the world is doing.  But they are tremendously impressed with Christians who have started living the kind of a life [the non-Christ-follower] cannot live."  Work at living in peace with those around you.  Don't make everything all about you!

What does the next part of the verse mean?  One Bible scholar said the word for "holiness" speaks of something being used for "it's proper use."  Here's what that looks like:  when you mess up . . .  humble yourself, confess your sin and move on for the Lord.  Next, every day start with a fresh infusion of heavenly strength that God provides -- if you ask for it!  God promises to give you the strength to do anything He wants you to do.  When you live this way, day after day, you are walking through life in a close, dependent relationship with Christ.  That is the "holiness"  without which "no one will see" (or enjoy the welcome presence of) God.
