Women Outnumber Men For College Degrees, For The First Time
04.27.11 |
The U.S. Census Bureau says women outnumber men-- for the very first time-- when it comes to finishing college and holding advanced degrees. The findings come among record shares of women in the workplace and a steady decline in stay-at-home moms. Among adults 25 and older completing a master's degree last year, 10-point-6 million were women. That's compared to 10-point-5-million men. Women still lag behind when it comes to equal pay for equal work. As far as finishing college, women surpassed men by one and a half million. Demographers say the educational gains are part of a decades-long trend that is reshaping women in the workplace.
