Whooping cough cases are increasing across Pennsylvania. The State Department of Health reports there are three times as many cases of whooping cough this year compared to 2011, so far. They say the resurgence, like the flu, has come early.

Doctors say you can contract whooping cough by ingesting droplets from someone who is contagious and coughing.

Children who catch the disease or who have been exposed to someone with whooping cough are encouraged to stay home from school for a week and take antibiotics.
