Vice President Reveals Secret Hiding Spot
05.18.09 |
Today we know where that "undisclosed location" is that former Vice President Dick Cheney was so often holed up in during the Bush administration. The secret has been told by none other than the current Vice President, Joe Biden.
The man who's a heartbeat away from the presidency and who is known for speaking out of turn, recently attended a Gridiron Club supper in Washington. During dinner, Biden reportedly told other politicians and a few media members that the secret bunker is right under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, Biden's current home.
Newsweek magazine editor Eleanor Clift says as Biden tells the tale "a young naval officer giving (Biden) a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock." Not only was Cheney occasionally sealed underground, but, Clift says, his most trusted advisers apparently were too.
The story gains credence following earlier stories about Naval Observatory neighbors complaining about construction noise in December of 2002. The neighbors were told there was "sensitive" and "classified" work being done that needed to be completed on "a highly accelerated schedule." The neighbors say they believe the racket was caused by a good deal of digging. Biden was standing in at the Gridiron dinner for President Obama.
