>U.S. Mint Introduces New Lincoln Penny

The U.S. Mint has introduced another of the four new one-cent coins being produced this year. While the "heads" side of the coins continue to bear the likeness of the 16th President of the United States, the "tails" sides represent different periods in the life of Lincoln. Two coins, already introduced this year, represent his birth and early Kentucky childhood and his years from 1816-1830 in Indiana. The third, just issued Thursday, features the years from 1830-1861 -- time he spent in Illinois. It shows him in front of the state Capitol in Springfield. The fourth new penny will be introduced in November and will show the U.S. Capitol under construction representing Lincoln's time as President from 1861-1865.
The mint says the special Lincoln coins, issued in commemoration of his 200th birthday, will contain the exact metallic content that was contained in the 1909 one-cent coin, 95-percent copper, five-percent tin and zinc.
