U.S. Census Reports Nearly 600-Thousand On Payroll
06.03.10 |
U.S. households who failed to fill out and mail their census forms have provided employment to nearly 600-thousand Americans. The Census Bureau reports it had 573-thousand-779 workers on its payroll in mid-May. The temporary workers are assisting with the once-a-decade headcount of the nation. The jobs might provide a large lift to Friday's employment report for May.
Exactly how the temporary workers will be accounted for in the jobs report isn't clear. In April, Census reported just over 156-thousand people on its payroll, but the Labor Department only listed 66-thousand Census-related jobs in its April report.
