Upstate NY College To Require Gays to Show Proof Of Marriage
08.05.11 |
Here's a twist on the same sex marriage law in New York State. Before the law was passed, some gay couples were able to add their live in partners to their health insurance without no questions asked. But now that the law that allows gay marriage in New York is on the books, the University of Rochester is requiring every employee to show proof of marriage before being added to health insurance policies. The university says in order to treat all employees fairly, starting next summer, same sex couples must be married to get health coverage. As of last month, there were 84 same sex couples getting benefits through the university.
