Town Says No To 24 Hour Walmart On Black Friday
11.17.10 |
The town of Victor, New York has rejected a request by a Walmart to stay open for 24 hours on Black Friday. The town agreed the store, which is nestled amid several neighborhoods would be irritating to those celebrating the holiday; with extra traffic, and the bright parking lot lights on overnight. Right now, it's required to close at 11 p.m.
Walmart said it wanted to avoid a stampede of customers on Black Friday. On Long Island in 2008, an employee was killed by Black Friday purchasers waiting for the doors to open. The store said it's trying to make sure it's customers and its staff members are safe. But the town counsel said that was a rare and isolated incident-- so it's a no-go for Walmart.
