If the Pennsylvania Game Commission's seasonal forecast and area archery hunters trophy photos are any indication, this could be a big firearms season for deer hunters.

The game commission reported that a large acorn crop from 2016 could result in bigger and healthier bucks this season,  and the number of bucks could rise statewide for the third straight year.

In addition, the six-week archery season, which ended November 11th, featured unseasonably warm weather and made it a challenge for hunters to fill their tags.

So many monster bucks are still roaming the countryside for rifle season.

Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Bryan Burhans says there's no doubt something special is happening. For the past few months, hunters have been sending us trail-cam photos of amazing bucks--maybe even new state records."
