Thousands Of NY Offenders Removed From Facebook, MySpace

More than 35-hundred registered New York state sex offenders have been booted from social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced the first database sweep since a new state law that targets online predators went into effect. The new e-STOP law that requires convictedoffenders to register their e-mail addresses and other online identifiers with the state offender registry, was able to help Facebook and MySpace identify and disable the accounts of a combined total of three thousand, 533 offenders in New York. Cuomo sent letters to many other social networking sites encouraging them to get involved, since he says they've been slow to adopt the available new protections.
