08.19.11 |
A Florida teacher is suspended and reassigned for calling gay marriage a sin on Facebook. Mount Dora High School social studies teacher Jerry Buell was yanked from his classroom after he posted this on facebook wall, quote "if they want to call gay marriage a union, go ahead. God will not be mocked. When did this sin become acceptable?" Hundreds of comments-- mostly negative-- were written in responce. He retorted by saying "if one of you doesn't like my opinion, based on biblical principles, go ahead and un-friend me. I'll miss you like I miss my kidney stone from 1994." The school suspended Buell under their new social media policy. He says his words weren't spoken out of hatred-- and says what he does on his own personal time-- on his own home computer-- should not threaten his job. the former Lake County, Florida "teacher of the year" will be kept out of the classroom until an investigation is complete.
