Source: Toyota Considering New Perks For Buyers
02.15.10 |
Toyota is pondering ways to sweeten the deal for buyers as the automaker grapples with concerns over its recent recalls. A source briefed on the plans says Toyota is talking to dealers about the incentives. One idea would give an additional one-thousand dollars on top of the current one-thousand dollar incentive to returning customers. The carmaker is also considering a free maintenance program that would include oil changes and regular mile services. Another perk could be longer-term warranty coverage.
Although a Toyota spokeswoman declined to comment on details of the possible incentives, a Toyota executive has hinted at them. Senior Toyota Motor Sales Vice President Don Esmond said over the weekend that the manufacturer will look at "competitive incentives" to draw buyers. Esmond also revealed Toyota will pay for some inventory financing costs dealers have suffered. U.S. Toyota sales dropped 16 percent in January after it issued safety recalls. That's the lowest sales level in more than a decade for Toyota.
