Some Democrats Back Governor Paterson, For Now
09.22.09 |
President Obama stops in New York for the second time in a week, visiting Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and chatting the economy. But several New York lawmakers are speaking out about President Obama aiming to cut down Governor Paterson's run for his first full term in office. Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson says he is supporting Governor Paterson, for now. President Obama calls the governor is "a wonderful man," while lavishing praise on Andrew Cuomo as "your shy and retiring attorney general," during his remarks from Hudson Valley Community College. The White House fears a potential match-up between Paterson and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo could put former city mayor Rudy Giuliani in the Governor's Mansion. Recent polls show Giuliani would win in a landslide against Paterson, while Attorney General Cuomo would win a head-to-head showdown.
