Slovenia Leads Americans' Group In South Africa

The United States is in a two-way tie for second place in its group at the World Cup. The Americans worked out a 1-1 tie with England on Saturday, while Slovenia beat Algeria 1-nil on Sunday. That puts Slovenia on top of Group C with three points through the first set of games. The U.S. and England are second with one point each, while Algeria is last with no points. The U.S. still has to play Slovenia and Algeria in their group before possibly advancing to the knockout rounds. The top two teams in each of the tournament's eight groups advance. The U.S. and England are still the favorites to move into the Round of 16. Of the group teams, England is ranked eighth in the world, while the U.S. is 14th. Slovenia is 25th in the FIFA [[ FEE-fuh ]] rankings, while Algeria comes in 30th. If the Americans can win their next two games as expected, they will advance.
