Schuykill County Clerk to Appeal PA Marriage Ruling

06.09.14 | Terry Diener

Governor Tom Corbett will not appeal a federal judge order legalizing same sex marriage in Pennsylvania. But there's someone else who will. Her name is Theresa Santai-Gaffney, and she's Schuykill County's register of wills and clerk of the Orphan's court. Her office issues same sex marriage licenses in that county. She has formally asked U.S. District Judge John E. Jones to allow her to intervene in the case-- Jones is the judge that issued the original ruling. If granted, her appeal would be heard by the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court o Appeals.
