Santorum and Morgan Spar On Gay Marriage On CNN
09.01.11 |
The defense of traditional marriage played out last night before an audience of 600-thousand on national t.v., on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight." Morgan interviewed former Pennsylvania Senator and Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum. At one point, he called Santorum a "bigot" for standing up for traditional marriage. Santorum responded by saying "just because you follow a moral code doesn't mean that you're a bigot. Are you suggesting the church in biggoted? But saying a church is bigoted just because it stands for what it believes, I think in itself is biggoted."
Both Morgan and Santorum are Catholic. Morgan said he believes we live in different era, a "modern world". Santorum responded by saying truth doesn't change just because it's a different era. He said there are some truths that are eternal, and that is what the church teaches. Then he said he respects that different people don't believe what he believes, but he doesn't call them a bigot because they don't agree.

Santorum is in the top tier of the Republican presidential candidates; he came in 4th place in the Iowa straw poll.
